Jessa looks to provide you with top-quality care. She has always strived to instill hope when things may seem hopeless, so the name Hope Psychology seemed like a natural fit for her practice. She prides herself on providing her clients with a holistic and eclectic approach.

Jessa’s Approach

Jessa strives to help teens (13+), adults and couples to reach their goals. She is here to provide you with empathetic care, while assisting in identify and ending the cycles that have been limiting your ability to thrive. She is certified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness. She has also completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and has completed a Self-Havening workshop. Additionally, she is passionate about Self-Compassion and has spoken publicly on the benefits of utilizing self-compassion for the betterment of mental health. When Jessa is not providing you with care, you’ll find her out pursuing her passions with her horses.

What does it mean to be a Registered Provisional Psychologist?

In the journey to becoming a registered psychologist, a professional must go through an extensive amount of supervised hours. This process helps to protect the public and ensures high quality of care for clients. Jessa has two supervisors who are Registered Psychologists named Claire Wilde (2671) and Margot Crane (4424). They are required to sign off on all written reports and are available for consultation or guidance for treatment. Jessa has completed two thirds of her provisional hours and is well on her way to becoming a Registered Psychologist.

Insurance Coverage

As a Registered Provisional Psychologist, Jessa is able to offer direct billing for Alberta Blue Cross and Alberta School Employee Benefit Plan (ASEBP). If your insurance provider is not on this list, it is likely that you will still be able to submit your insurance yourself.

Jessa is a registered/pre-approved provider for:

  • Sun Life/ Lumino Health

    Most insurance policies cover services by a Registered Provisional Psychologist. However, there are some plans that deny reimbursement from services from Registered Provisional Psychologists. If you are planning to submit your receipts for reimbursement to your insurance provider, it is advised that you contact your insurer before your first session to confirm that your plan covers the services of a Registered Provisional Psychologist.

FAQs

Does Hope Psychology Provide Emergency Services?

Hope Psychology and all of its therapists are not emergency services providers. Therapists often have no access to a phone or email when in session or out of the office, making them unable to provide these types of services. To receive immediate care in an emergency, please instead call 911, visit your local emergency room or call a suicide help line, such as 988 (text option as well). Other emergency services include: Kid’s Help Phone: 1-800-668-6868,  Mental Health Helpline (24/7): 1-877-303-2642, Addiction Helpline (24/7): 1-866-332-2322.

Does Therapy Involve doing Homework?

Some strategies you may learn require practice to master. It may be encouraged that you practice between sessions for “homework.”

Is there a way to speak directly with the therapist before booking?

Yes! You can book a free 15-minute consultation before deciding to try therapy. This is a great opportunity to ask the therapist any questions you may have. To book you can go to Hope Psychology’s booking website https://hopepsychology.janeapp.com and click “Free 15-minute phone consultation.” You can also click the “Book Now” links on this website to book. The therapist will then call you on the number you list at the appointment time. Please be in a confidential space to talk for this consultation.

Is therapy confidential?

Information shared and discussed between yourself and the therapist is confidential in nature. Your information cannot be released without your written consent.

What is Telehealth?

Telehealth or telepsychology is therapy that takes place in an online format or by phone. Online appointments will be through the Jane App booking system, which is HIPPA compliant. You will receive a link for your appointments and it will take you to a secure zoom-type online format where you and the therapist can view and speak with each other. You will need good internet connection for this type of an appointment.

What does “Eclectic” mean?

An eclectic approach is one that brings in techniques and interventions from multiple theoretical orientations. For example, Jessa pulls techniques from both Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.
